SaiPaa faces the loss of two star players
In the SaiPa camp, there is serious tension regarding the decisions of the League’s disciplinary delegation after Friday’s quarter-final match. The two star forwards from Lappeenranta, Maxime Fortier and Miikka Salomäki, are facing a suspension due to their actions during Friday night’s round.
Both were sent to the showers after SaiPa defeated Ässät with a score of 4-1, taking a 2-1 lead in the quarter-final series on Friday in Lappeenranta.
Salomäki tackled Ässät’s Jonne Tammela in the head and neck area in the second period.
Fortier, on the other hand, acted foolishly in the third period, hitting Ässät’s Sakari Kostilainen with a cross-check.
Both now face a suspension for the fourth match of the series, which will be played on Monday. Especially Fortier’s loss would be enormous for SaiPa, as he was the team’s most effective scorer during the regular season with a total of 29+37=66 points. He ranked third in the League’s scoring race.
Salomäki, who has also played in the NHL, recorded 17+18=35 points during the regular season.
