TPS’s Danish defender Oliver Lauridsen tackled Ässät’s Petteri Riihinen dangerously in the head during TPS’s second-to-last game of the regular season. Lauridsen received a match penalty for the tackle and subsequently an eight-game suspension.
Now Lauridsen has commented on the situation for the first time to Expressen. It has been just over a week since the incident.
– I try to leave that situation behind me. Above all, my intention was never to hurt anyone, never. I have tackled a lot in my career, and now it went wrong. The most important thing is that Riihinen is doing well and that he returns to play as soon as possible, Lauridsen said.
Lauridsen mentioned that he felt guilty about the tackle and had been in contact with Riihinen because of it.
– I contacted him right after the game and apologized. I also reached out the next day to make sure everything was okay. That’s the most important thing.
– He accepted my apology and said that sometimes this happens in the game. Sometimes things go wrong. He said he was doing well, but otherwise, the conversation will remain between us, Lauridsen shares.
Riihinen has not been able to play since the tackle.
Municipal politician and Doctor of Law Otto Meri commented that Lauridsen should be sentenced to conditional imprisonment for the tackle. Lauridsen also responded to this opinion.
– I believe people have every right to their own opinions. I don’t think I need to comment on the matter any further.
Lauridsen’s contract with TPS ended after this season.
