The Pelicans’ roster is seeing changes. The Lahti club has mutually terminated the contract of defender Onni Käyhkö. He is already the third player whose contract has been terminated within a month.

In September, defenders Samuel Huzevka and forward Lukas Zetterberg left Pelicans. Now it’s the turn of the club’s own product, who has played four league games this season without scoring points.

Käyhkö’s new club is BIK Karlskoga, which plays in Sweden’s second-highest league. The club confirmed the defender’s transfer and stated that the contract covers the 2026–2027 season.

Karlskoga’s sports director Torsten Yngveson expects the 192-centimeter Finnish player to bring more stability to the defense.

– Onni is a tall and solid two-way defender with good skating and a good first pass. We believe he will fit well into our playing style, Yngveson says in the club’s statement.

Käyhkö joined the Pelicans’ league team in the 2022–2023 season. Last season, he played 40 regular season games and had 4+1=5 points.

– It’s great to represent a top club like BIK Karlskoga. I’ve seen that there’s a great atmosphere in the arena during the games, and I’m looking forward to playing in front of the fans, Käyhkö says.

Karlskoga hopes to get the Finnish defender ready for the weekend’s games.
