HIFK’s combined Sampo Ranta, 26, is free to change teams. Örebro announced on Tuesday that the club and the Finnish forward have agreed to terminate the contract.

Aftonbladet reported over the weekend that Ranta will leave Örebro immediately and join HIFK’s roster on Tuesday. The termination of the contract now paves the way for the transfer, but the HIFK contract has not yet been confirmed.

Örebro’s Henrik Löwdahl discusses the background of the decision in the club’s statement.

– Sampo’s playing time at the beginning of the season has not been what we or Sampo himself would have hoped for. When this solution became possible, it felt like the best option for both parties. Sampo has been very professional throughout this process, and we wish him all the best for his career ahead, Löwdahl says.

Ranta was left out of Örebro’s lineup for Saturday’s match against Växjö. The young forward, who left for abroad at a young age, has not played a single Liiga game in his career. In the NHL, he accumulated 16 regular season games with the Colorado Avalanche during the 2021–22 and 2022–23 seasons.

Stuck at the bottom of the league, HIFK will face TPS in their next match on Wednesday in Helsinki.
