Former NHL giant released – transfer to Liiga in progress!
Kalmar HC, playing in Sweden’s HockeyAllsvenskan, announced that defense giant Andrej Sustr will leave the club after the current season.
– It has been a great honor to see a player with Sustr’s vast NHL experience and professionalism don the red jersey. This has been a privilege for both the club and the fans, the club praised on Instagram.
Sustr joined Kalmar mid-season and played 27 games in HockeyAllsvenskan with stats of 1+4. This season, the over two-meter tall defenseman was also seen in the AHL with the Bridgeport Islanders, where he played 11 games (0+1).
Last season, Sustr played in Finland for Tappara, participating in 38 regular season games with stats of 1+11 and nine playoff games. In his NHL career, he has represented the Tampa Bay Lightning and Anaheim Ducks, playing a total of 362 regular season games (11+58=69) and 46 playoff games (2+3).
According to rumors, Sustr is set to return to Finland next season. Already in January, Aamulehti reported that the defenseman would be moving to Mikkelin Jukurit.
