Breaking news: four-time Stanley Cup winner NHL legend has passed away
Former NHL star Claude Lemieux has passed away at the age of 60.
The NHL alumni organization confirmed the sad news on their website on Thursday. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
Lemieux won four Stanley Cup championships during his career: with the Montreal Canadiens in 1986, the New Jersey Devils in 1995, the Colorado Avalanche in 1996, and again with the Devils in 2000.
The championships won in New Jersey were the first in the history of the Devils organization.
After his playing career, Lemieux became a player agent. At the time of his death, the Canadian had negotiated 16 active NHL contracts.
Lemieux was also the father of former NHL player Brendan Lemieux.
Just recently, Lemieux was seen raising the spirits in Montreal when the Montreal Canadiens faced the Carolina Hurricanes in the third matchup of the NHL playoff semifinals.
Lemieux began his NHL career in Montreal.
