TPS signed a power forward – top power in the Slovakian top league
TPS announced its latest player acquisition on Tuesday, informing about the arrival of Canadian defenseman Gabriel Chicoine in Turku on a one-year contract.
The 29-year-old Chicoine played last season in the top league of Slovakia for Vlci Žilina, where he recorded 12 goals and 21 assists for a total of 33 points in 41 regular season games.
According to TPS’s sports director Mika Suoraniemi, the 183-centimeter Chicoine brings primarily puck-handling skills to the defense.
– Gabriel reads the game well and is a quality puck-moving defenseman. His strengths are particularly highlighted in transitioning the play, moving the puck, and making decisions under pressure. He can actively participate in the offensive game and provides us with more options in special situations.
– Gabriel has been producing very good results as a defenseman for several seasons now and has been among the top defensemen in the Slovakian top league over the last two seasons, Suoraniemi commented in the press release.
TPS’s head coach Toni Söderholm believes the Canadian will also bring a positive addition to the team’s locker room.
– He adds versatility to our defense and is capable of advancing the play with the puck. He is also a positive person who brings good energy to the team, Söderholm predicts.
