SaiPa forward Petr Fridrich, 26, has received a surprising call-up to the EHT tournament currently taking place in Helsinki.

Fridrich was summoned on Saturday to the Czech EHT team during the Nocco Hockey Games tournament. The SaiPa forward joined the team quickly and participated in Saturday’s morning ice practice.

Fridrich will be available for Saturday evening’s match against Finland, where he will start as an extra forward for the Czech team.

The quick call-up is due to health concerns within the Czech team.

– We have some minor health issues in the team. We wanted to ensure that we have enough forwards for the two matches this weekend, Czech assistant coach Richard Král revealed to Czech media.

Fridrich has been one of SaiPa’s most dangerous scorers at the start of the season. The Czech forward has scored seven goals in 16 Liiga games and accumulated a total of 11 points.

Fridrich moved to SaiPa this season from HC Olomouc, where he scored 21 goals last season.

Fridrich has previously played nine international matches for the Czech Republic, with stats of 1+4.

Finland and the Czech Republic will meet at the Helsinki Veikkaus Arena at 18:30.
