SaiPa’s new captaincy for the upcoming season announced – here is the team’s new captain
SaiPa has announced its captaincy for the Liiga season 2025-26.
The new captain of SaiPa is defender Samuli Niinisaari. The team’s alternate captains for the upcoming season will be forward Niklas Appelgren and defender Saku Salminen.
– It feels great, it’s a huge honor to serve as the captain of this team. I experienced exemplary leadership last season as part of the team and I want to continue on that same exemplary path, Niinisaari says in SaiPa’s statement.
– I want the team to have a captain whose actions speak for themselves. So that’s what we, as a captaincy group, aim for; to set a good example. We have a strong trio of captains. There’s a lot of experience and we’ve seen many things. Appelgren has been with SaiPa for a longer time and Saku also has a lot of league experience; I have experience from elsewhere as well, Niinisaari continues.
Niinisaari, 27, is starting his second season with SaiPa. Last season, he recorded 60 regular season games with a total of 4+11=15 points and 21 playoff games with 1+2 points.
Of the captaincy members, Appelgren has been part of SaiPa’s captaincy before. He has played for the club for two seasons and has served as an alternate captain in both seasons. Salminen has represented SaiPa for one season.
