Switzerland is chasing its third consecutive World Championship final spot as it faces Norway in the semifinals today, Saturday at 16:20.

New Jersey Devils forward Timo Meier will, however, not be able to play in the World Championship semifinals.

The reason is a knee check in the quarterfinals that Meier directed at Sweden’s Oskar Sundqvist in the neutral zone.

The Swiss forward received only a two-minute penalty for his action in the game and avoided a major penalty, but the IIHF’s disciplinary committee has now investigated the incident.

The disciplinary committee imposed a one-game suspension on Meier. He received a two-minute penalty for a cross-check, but Meier is considered to have committed a knee check worthy of a suspension in the same situation.

Meier has scored 3+8 points in eight games in the World Championship tournament.
