The Lions defeated the Czech Republic 2-1 in penalties on Saturday in the Finland EHT tournament.
In addition to the victory, Finland also experienced an unfortunate setback in the match. The Lions’ defender Miska Kukkonen was injured and had to leave the game early.
– He got injured and is no longer available, Lions head coach Antti Pennanen told SuomiKiekko after the match.
– I don’t know more details yet, but it shouldn’t be anything long-term.
The setback is also huge for HPK. Kukkonen is the team’s absolute number one defender. The strong defenseman has recorded 3+5=8 points in 19 Liiga games this season.
