Transfer bomb in the League – Markus Nutivaara to a surprising address!
In the NHL, Markus Nutivaara, 32, who has played nearly 300 games, is returning to the Liiga with a surprising team. Lahti Pelicans announced on Tuesday that they have signed the experienced defenseman to a one-year contract.
Nutivaara played 35 games last season with Kärpät, scoring 7+9=16 points. The defenseman moved to Kölner Haie in the DEL at the trade deadline and played three games in Germany, recording 0+2 points.
− Markus is a player that doesn’t come to the Liiga very often. He brings us a wealth of experience, puck skills, and calmness to the game, but also leadership in everyday life and the locker room. We strongly believe that Markus can help the team significantly and also bring a lot of joy to our supporters, commented Pelicans’ sports director Jarkko Oikarinen Holm on the club’s website.
Nutivaara, who has represented Kärpät throughout his entire Liiga career, played in the Pelicans’ A-juniors already in the 2012-13 season.
− I have really great feelings. It’s wonderful to know that I can train and play hockey again in Lahti, where I have many great memories. I had an amazing year there when I was younger.
– I want to be a relentless and leading player, take on a role, and help the team win. I want to bring experience to the team, help younger players, and make others around me better, Nutivaara himself commented on his move.
Due to injuries, Nutivaara, who had not played for three seasons before his last stint with Kärpät, has played 275 regular season games in the NHL, scoring 17+54=71 points. In the Liiga, the defenseman has played 120 regular season games, scoring 13+27=40 points.
Pelicans on tehnyt kauden 2026-2027 kattavan sopimuksen Markus Nutivaaran kanssa.
Tervetuloa Pelicansiin, Markus
