The new head coach of the Jokers revealed: this will change immediately
Jokerit fired head coach Tomek Valtosen and assistant coach Waltteri Immonen on Sunday. The new head coach is Juuso Hahl, who has been part of the coaching staff until now.
The decision to accept the new role was made quickly. Hahl says he already has many ideas about how the work at Jokerit will continue.
– After a quick consideration, I decided that I have a good opportunity to take on the job. I have many thoughts on how we can move forward from here, Hahl says.
First, Hahl wants to improve Jokerit’s teamwork.
– We need to play better together. We know what kind of player types we have and what skills we possess, and no one can succeed on the ice alone.
Hahl also plans to make changes to the playing style. However, he does not expect everything to be visible in Tuesday’s match against HPK.
– Certain gameplay changes will be made. We will go through them immediately. Not everything will be ready for Tuesday’s game, but we will proceed sensibly step by step, Hahl says.
According to the new head coach, the difficult results have also affected the team’s mental state. He sees one way to change that.
– It’s a pretty traditional situation that when the results are poor, a mental block comes with it. It really only opens up by winning, Hahl believes.
Joining Hahl in the coaching team is Janne Grönvall, with whom he has previously worked at Vaasan Sport. Hahl mentions that bringing Grönvall on board is very important.
– We are completely on the same page about how this process should be carried out, Hahl says.
The new coaching staff will be behind the Jokerit bench for the first time on Tuesday when the team faces HPK at Veikkaus Arena.
