JYP won the traditional Tampere Cup on Saturday. The team from Jyväskylä defeated Tappara 2–1 in the final on Saturday.
The opening goal of the match came in the second period when Leevi Tukiainen scored JYP’s first goal. However, Tappara equalized before the second intermission with a goal from Michael Lindqvist.
The decision came in the final period. JYP took a 2–1 lead when last season’s league top scorer Valtteri Ojantakanen found the net from a setup by Otto Jaatinen.
Tappara could not respond anymore, so JYP claimed the Tampere Cup championship.
The new SM-liiga season starts on Tuesday, September 1st.
