Canadian forward Liam Hawel is moving to the league, reports Expressen. According to the Swedish newspaper, Hawel has signed a contract with Pelicans.
Expressen reports that the German club Krefeld Pinguine was also previously interested in Hawel, but ultimately no contract was made.
Hawel, 27, has played the last two seasons in Sweden’s Allsvenskan. Last season, he represented Kalmar HC and recorded 45 points in 51 games with 13 goals and 32 assists. Hawel was Kalmar’s second-best scorer and sixth in the league’s scoring list.
In his first Allsvenskan season, Hawel represented IK Oskarshamn, scoring 31 points in 52 games.
Hawel is a 4th round draft pick by the Dallas Stars from 2017, but he has not played in the NHL during his career. The most productive season of Hawel’s career was in the Canadian junior league OHL, where he had a season with 78 points.
