The Jokers announce that they have strengthened their goaltending department with Veini Vehviläinen. The 28-year-old goalkeeper’s contract is valid until December 21.

28-year-old Vehviläinen has represented JYPä, TPS, Sport and Kärpät in the League. He has a Finnish championship title from the spring of 2018 in his trophy cabinet.

In addition to the League, Vehviläinen has experience from the SHL, AHL, and NHL for one game. Vehviläinen won gold at the World Championships with the Lions in the spring of 2019.

– Veini is a well-aged, accomplished goalkeeper who still has high ambitions. He has proven he can play at the international top level. As a mobile and game-reading goalkeeper, he brings both competition and experience to the lineup, says Olli-Pekka Yrjänheikki, the sports director of the Jokers, in a statement.

– The background of Veini’s short-term contract is similar to that of Miro Nalli, which was announced last week. He has been training at the beginning of the season without a team, so the next two months provide both him and us the opportunity to calmly assess continuation possibilities, Yrjänheikki continues.
