Niko Huuhtanen returns to Europe – IS: Here is the new club
Niko Huuhtanen, who terminated his NHL contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning earlier this week, is returning to Europe.
Ilta-Sanomat reported on Thursday that Huuhtanen, 22, will next join EHC Biel-Bienne. The Swiss club already relies heavily on Finnish talent, as in addition to club legend Toni Rajala, Jere Sallinen and goalkeeper Harri Säteri are currently playing for Biel.
Huuhtanen moved to North America after scoring 19+27=46 points in 52 regular season games with Jukurit during the 2023-24 season. However, NHL games remained a dream for the forward, as the young player who played in the AHL last season was even dropped to the ECHL this season.
Last season, Huuhtanen played 51 regular season games with the AHL’s Syracuse Crunch, recording 8+12=20 points.
Biel has not yet confirmed Huuhtanen’s transfer to the club.
