After more than 12 years, the ticket sales for the local match between Jokerit and HIFK prompted a strong reaction from former Liiga player and Ilta-Sanomat expert Topi Nättinen. The Helsinki teams will meet on Thursday at the Veikkaus Arena.

Jokerit announced on Monday that 9,500 tickets had been sold for the match. The maximum capacity of the arena for Liiga matches this season is 13,144 spectators.

– It can already be said that Thursday’s long-awaited local match Jokerit–HIFK is not sold out. Absolutely unbelievable. In the context of Finnish ball game history, this can be considered one of the biggest farces of all time, Nättinen stated in Ilta-Sanomat.

Jokerit’s pricing has received widespread criticism. Tickets for the long sides of the lower stand cost 149–159 euros and for the upper stand 75–129 euros. The cheapest upper stand ticket for those under 17 years old costs 34 euros.

– I can’t think of any other country or league where two capital city teams would meet after more than 12 years and the match wouldn’t be sold out. As a Finnish hockey person, I am ashamed!
