Niko Huuhtanen returns to the Liiga after a two-season break. According to Iltalehti’s Lätkäpod, the 22-year-old national team forward has signed a contract with Helsingin IFK for the next season.

– Huuhtanen returns home from abroad and seeks a new rise in his career under the familiar coach, Olli Jokinen. Jokinen coached the player in Mikkeli, Iltalehti reporter Timo Kunnari reports in Lätkäpod.

Huuhtanen rose among the stars of the Liiga in the 2023-24 season with Jokinen’s coached Jukurit. The young man scored 19+27=46 points in 52 regular season games.

The past season has been quite challenging for Huuhtanen. He started the season with AHL team Syracuse Crunch, where he played only five games before moving to Switzerland. With EHC Biel-Bienne, the winger ultimately played 10 games with stats of 2+1=3.
