The Jokerit played their first match under the new head coach Juuso Hahl on Tuesday at the Veikkaus Arena. The match ended with a victory for Jokerit against HPK with a score of 3-0.

The scoring opened in the second period when defenseman Matt Caito put Jokerit ahead 1-0. Caito had previously been left out of the lineup in a couple of games under Tomek Valtonen.

As the midway point of the final period approached, Jokerit’s captain Markus Hännikäinen sealed the game with two goals. The first came during a power play and the second just a minute and 22 seconds later at even strength.

HPK was unable to get past Tomi Karhu, who played in goal for Jokerit and kept a clean sheet. This marks Karhu’s second shutout of the season, achieved with 20 saves.

This was Jokerit’s second victory of the season overall. The team dismissed their head coach Valtonen on Sunday, and assistant coach Hahl stepped up to take his place.

Jokerit has risen to seven points, but their league position remains 16th. HPK is in 14th place after eight games.
