HIFK’s former defender continues his career in the championship team
Valtteri Kakkonen, familiar from HIFK and JYP, continues his career in the top league of Poland. The 26-year-old Finnish defender has signed an extension with GKS Tychy and is aiming for the club’s third consecutive Polish championship.
Kakkonen has quickly become one of the most effective defenders in the Polish league. During the two championship seasons, the Finn has played 61 regular season games in the Polish league with stats of 8+34=42.
In the playoffs, his performance has also been impressive, as he has collected stats of 8+11=19 in 29 games.
In the league, Kakkonen managed to play a total of 156 regular season games before leaving for abroad.
GKS Tychy has built a strong Finnish identity in recent years. Last season, the team was coached by Pekka Tirkkonen, and the roster included as many as 13 Finnish players.
